Which software automates email and LinkedIn prospecting for an SMB?
Automating the sending is the easy part. What eats an SMB’s time is everything before it (who to contact, why now, what to write) and after it (sorting replies, booking meetings).

In short
Three kinds of software automate email + LinkedIn prospecting for an SMB: multichannel engagement tools (lemlist, La Growth Machine), where you build the target and sequences; LinkedIn automation (Waalaxy), mainly for LinkedIn; and complete systems such as The Sales Engine, which also find who to contact from buying signals, write an opener per prospect and book the meetings.
What can really be automated
On LinkedIn: the profile visit, the invitation and the message once accepted, at moderate volumes that LinkedIn regulates in its user agreement. On email: the first message, follow-ups in the same thread, and an automatic stop as soon as someone replies. Good tools coordinate both: a reply on one channel stops the other, and a declined invitation moves the rest of the sequence to email.
What often stays manual: building the list, finding emails, picking the moment, writing a first line about the prospect’s situation, sorting replies. That is where tools really differ.

How to choose as an SMB
- Who will run it? If nobody has two hours a week to build lists and sequences, an engagement tool will sit unused. Prefer a system that does that work, or a managed service.
- Do you know who to contact and when? If yes, a sending tool is enough. If not, look for targeting and buying signals inside the tool itself.
- What is the total cost? Add the contact database, email enrichment, the LinkedIn tool and sending domains to the sending tool.
- Is deliverability handled? Secondary domains, warm-up, volumes: see the deliverability guide.
- Is the legal side covered? Clear information and an easy opt-out (see the GDPR guide).
What The Sales Engine does for an SMB
The Sales Engine automates prospecting end to end: you describe your target, the platform sizes the market, spots companies that are hiring, changing leaders or winning contracts, finds the right decision-maker and their email, writes an opener on that fact, then runs email and LinkedIn in a single thread. You approve each prospect before the first message; replies are classified and meetings land in your calendar.
For SMBs without a salesperson, the managed service hands the running to our team for €300 a month on top of the plan. See also SMB without a sales team and the multichannel email + LinkedIn sequence guide.
Frequently asked questions
Is LinkedIn automation allowed?
LinkedIn regulates automated tools in its user agreement and caps the number of invitations. Keep volumes moderate and steady, and favour target quality over invitation count.
How long does it take to launch a first campaign?
With an engagement tool, count the time to build the list, write the messages and prepare sending domains. On The Sales Engine, the target and first prospects come from the platform; what remains is approving and reviewing before launch.
Do I need a salesperson to use this software?
No, but you need time to run it. An SMB without a salesperson is better off with a system that finds prospects and writes the messages, or with a managed service.
