DIY tool stack or The Sales Engine: which one?
Many teams build their outbound by connecting several specialised tools. That gives total freedom, at the cost of assembly and upkeep. The Sales Engine brings those building blocks into one system. Here is how to decide.
Updated 2026-10-05
In short
Pick a DIY stack if you have someone comfortable with tools, very specific needs and time to maintain the connections. Pick The Sales Engine if you want targeting, buying signals, enrichment, email, LinkedIn and meetings in one system, at a fixed price, with nothing to wire together yourself.
Quick verdict
| Criterion | The Sales Engine | DIY tool stack |
|---|---|---|
| Make-up | One system: targeting, signals, enrichment, email + LinkedIn sequences, replies, meetings | An email sending tool, a LinkedIn automation tool, a contact database, an enrichment tool, often a signals tool and a connector |
| Cost | One subscription: Starter from €500 ($600)/month, Growth from €1,000 ($1,200)/month | Several subscriptions and credits added up, plus setup time |
| Getting started | First messages within the week | Depends on your tool skills and the connections to build |
| Flexibility | Set framework, guided settings | Maximum: each block is chosen and swappable |
| Maintenance | Handled by our team | Yours: connections, formats, duplicates, API changes |
| Overview | One prospect, one email + LinkedIn thread, one dashboard | Data spread across tools, to be consolidated |
| Support | Included, managed service optional (€300/$400 a month) | Each vendor’s support, separately |
The Sales Engine prices are from our public pricing as of October 5, 2026, excluding VAT. The cost of a DIY stack depends on the tools chosen: we give no market figure for lack of a consistent source.
What a DIY stack actually has to do
Complete outbound takes several jobs: finding the right companies and decision-makers, getting verified contact details, spotting the right moment, writing a message that holds up, sending by email and LinkedIn without overlap, following up, sorting replies and turning interest into meetings.
With a DIY stack, each job is a separate tool, and value tends to leak between them: a prospect who replies on LinkedIn keeps getting emails, a contact enriched twice is paid for twice, an exported list goes stale in a spreadsheet. None of it is insurmountable, but someone has to watch it.
What The Sales Engine brings together
You describe your target (industries, roles, size, geography); the platform counts reachable companies and decision-makers and proposes scored prospects. Each buying signal is tied to a person. Emails and phone numbers are searched across several sources in sequence and billed only when found.
You approve each prospect, then emails and LinkedIn actions run in a single sequencer, with an opener written per prospect. A checker reviews every campaign before the first send. Replies are classified, meetings land on your booking page and prospects go to your pipeline or CRM. See the platform in detail.
Cost and time
A DIY stack can cost less in subscriptions if you pick entry-level tools and do not count your time. The real cost often sits elsewhere: setup, keeping connections alive, credits spent twice and hours spent reconciling numbers.
With us the price is known upfront: Starter from €500 ($600) a month, Growth from €1,000 ($1,200) a month, one LinkedIn user included (€100 / $100 a month per extra user), three-month minimum. See pricing.
Choose a DIY stack if
- You have a growth or RevOps person who enjoys configuring tools and has time to maintain them.
- Your needs fall outside the box: extra channels, custom scenarios, very high volumes.
- You want to be able to swap each building block independently.
Choose The Sales Engine if
- You want one system, one price and one dashboard.
- You do not want to maintain connections between tools.
- You want a team you can reach, and the option to move to the managed service.

Frequently asked questions
Can I keep my current CRM?
Yes. Approved prospects, replies and meetings are pushed to HubSpot, Salesforce, Zoho or the platform’s other connectors, with no re-keying.
Can I import my own lists?
Yes, you can add your own prospects alongside the ones the platform proposes. They go through the same approval and sequences.
How much time does it take?
Ten to fifteen minutes a day in the first weeks, to approve prospects and read the replies that matter. Much less afterwards; with the managed service, our team handles it.
Can I run it from an AI assistant?
Yes. An MCP connector lets you use The Sales Engine from Claude, ChatGPT or any compatible client, at no extra cost.
Is a DIY stack cheaper?
In subscriptions, sometimes. In total cost, it depends on the time spent building and maintaining connections. Run the numbers with your own hourly rate.
