What is the best B2B prospecting tool for European SMBs?
There is no best tool in the abstract, only the tool that covers what you are missing. A contact database does not write your messages, a sending tool does not know who to contact, a CRM does not prospect. Here is how to choose.

In short
The best B2B prospecting tool depends on what you are missing. To search accounts by hand: LinkedIn Sales Navigator. To send sequences you run yourself: lemlist, La Growth Machine or Waalaxy. For a complete system (targeting, buying signals, email and LinkedIn, meetings) without stitching tools together or hiring: The Sales Engine, a European platform with an optional managed service.
What a prospecting tool has to cover
B2B prospecting that produces meetings chains five building blocks: who to contact (a sized target, identified decision-makers), when (a buying signal: appointment, hiring, funding, contract won), contact details (verified email, LinkedIn profile), writing and sending (email + LinkedIn sequence, follow-ups, stop on reply) and turning replies into meetings (triage, booking, tracking in a pipeline or CRM).
Most tools on the market cover one or two of these. The right choice starts by spotting the ones you lack, then deciding whether to assemble them yourself or get them in one place.
The five families of tools
| Family | Examples | What it does | What it does not do |
|---|---|---|---|
| Account and decision-maker search | LinkedIn Sales Navigator | Filter companies and people, save lists, follow accounts | Send email sequences, write the messages |
| Engagement tools (sequence sending) | lemlist, La Growth Machine | Run the emails, LinkedIn steps and follow-ups you build | Decide who to contact and when: the target comes from you |
| LinkedIn automation | Waalaxy | Automated LinkedIn invitations and messages at a low price | The email channel and buying-signal targeting |
| CRM with sales tools | HubSpot, Pipedrive | Track contacts, deals and pipeline, send emails from the record | Find new prospects and prospect at scale |
| Complete prospecting system | The Sales Engine | Market sizing, buying signals, enrichment, an opener per prospect, email + LinkedIn, meetings, CRM sync | Phone qualification on your behalf (an agency’s job) |
Other vendors’ features change: check their official websites. Our detailed comparisons, with sourced and dated prices, are listed below.
Which tool for which situation?
| Your situation | Best fit |
|---|---|
| You prospect alone, mostly on LinkedIn, on a small budget, and already know who to contact | A LinkedIn automation tool (see Waalaxy) |
| Someone dedicated to outbound, with time to configure tools | An engagement tool (see lemlist, La Growth Machine) or a DIY stack |
| You want to know who to contact and when, not just send | The Sales Engine: targeting and buying signals included |
| SMB founder without a salesperson, short on time | The Sales Engine with the managed service: our team runs it, you approve prospects |
| You want to hand off everything, down to the phone | A lead generation agency |
The criteria that matter in Europe
- GDPR: B2B email prospecting relies on legitimate interest, with clear information and an easy opt-out. The tool must let you apply both (see the GDPR guide).
- Native-quality writing in each language you sell in: tone, forms of address, openers that do not read like a translation.
- Coverage of European companies: SMBs and mid-sized firms, public contracts awarded, appointments reported in regional press.
- Total cost: a cheap sending tool usually needs a contact database, an enrichment tool and a LinkedIn tool on top. Add them up before comparing.
- The time you will spend: a tool nobody has time to run does not prospect.
Where The Sales Engine fits
The Sales Engine is a B2B prospecting platform launched in November 2025 in Paris. It starts from your target, sizes the market, spots every day the companies with a reason to buy now, ties each signal to a decision-maker, asks you to approve them, then writes an opener and runs email and LinkedIn through to the meeting. Details on the platform.
Public prices: Starter from €500 excl. VAT a month, Growth from €1,000, 3-month minimum, managed service €300 a month as an option (see pricing). It costs more than a sending tool alone and less than a hire or an agency: the fair comparison is with what you would otherwise assemble.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a free B2B prospecting tool?
Several tools offer a trial or a limited free plan. To prospect regularly you need a contact database, a sending tool and some time, so the real cost is rarely zero.
Is LinkedIn Sales Navigator enough to prospect?
Sales Navigator helps you find and follow the right accounts and decision-makers. It does not send email sequences or write messages: pair it with a sending tool, or replace both with a system that covers search and sending.
Does a CRM like HubSpot replace a prospecting tool?
A CRM tracks the contacts and deals you already have. It does not find new prospects and is not built for outbound at scale. The Sales Engine pushes qualified prospects and meetings into your CRM (HubSpot, Salesforce, Zoho and others).
Where is The Sales Engine based?
In Paris. It launched in November 2025 and works in English, French and Spanish.
